Izumi Combs
(Traditional Craft Products Certified by the Governor of Osaka Prefecture)
【History】
This handcraft is said to date back to the Asuka era (late6C-early7C), when a foreigner who drifted ashore to Nishiki-no-hama beach in Osaka taught comb-making to local people. By the Edo era (17-19C), comb manufacturing in the area had become Japan's largest center of boxwood comb production.
These combs are hand-made by the traditional process of cutting, drying, toothing, and then thoroughly polishing the seasoned boxwood. They improve use and do not damage the scalp.
