Osaka Copperware
(Traditional Craft Products Certified by the Governor of Osaka Prefecture)
【History】
Due to the incredible development of Nanbanshibori, a Japanese traditional coppaer liquation method, more than ten thousand coppersmiths worked in Osaka in the early part of the sixteenth century. During the Edo era, copper produced throughout Japan was stored in the Osaka Mint, and Osaka was known as a prosperous center of copperware production.
The products manufactured include a wide range of copperware: from utensils for rituals to those for daily life manufactured by traditional metal carving, metal casting, and metal forging techniques. Osaka copperware is well-known for its solid durability and dignified appearance.
