【沿革・特徴】
　大阪欄間は、17世紀初期に建立した大阪府内の聖神社（和泉市）や四天王寺（大阪市）などに伝統技法の発祥が見られる。屋久杉などの杢目（もくめ）を生かした絵画調の彫刻欄間、桐の肌と透かし模様が調和した透彫欄間、簡潔な幾何学模様を表した組子欄間、このほか筬（おさ）欄間、節抜（よぬき）欄間があり、日本家屋にふさわしい装飾と換気の機能性を備えている。
　大阪欄間彫刻は、17世紀初期が起源とされる。長年にわたって磨き蓄積された高度な技術・技法を用い、屋久杉などの杢目を生かした室内調度品が数多く生産されている。

【History】
Osaka Transoms
　This Osaka-style woodwork, which provides Japanese-style houses with a　means of tasteful decor, as well as ventilation, evolved from a style that began in the early 17th century. Early examples can be seen today in Hijiri Shrine and Shitennoji Temple, Osaka Prefecture.
　Some transoms feature pictorial carvings, taking advantage of the natural grain of yakusugi-cedar wood, or are openworked in harmony with the even grain of paulownia wood. Osa and Kumiko transoms, on the other hand, which employ special joinery techniques, depict simple geometrical patterns, while Yonuki transoms are uniquely patterned in vertical latticework.

Osaka Screen Carving
　This carving technique, which originated in the early 17th century, is nowadays also applied to many furnishings, making an effective use of yakusugi cedar and other wood grains.

【製造工程】

1. 原木
   屋久杉、杉、檜、桐等
2. 製材
   板の幅、厚さ、長さを決めて製材する
3. 乾燥
   3ヶ月以上、自然乾燥させる
4. 木取り
   一組ずつ墨付け、寸法切りをし、11mm以上の厚さに削る
5. 下絵描き
   直接木の表面に墨で下絵を描く
6. 挽き仕事
   下絵の不要部分を切り抜く
7. 繰り仕事
   挽き口の荒れを削りながら修正する
8. 彫り
   立体彫りで遠近感・立体感を出す
   平面彫りで木目を生かした仕上げをする
9. 面取り
   彫刻面と外周面との境界に区切りを入れる
10. 磨き加工
    うずくり、イボタ蝋で磨く
11. 額縁組
    額縁を組み、完成
