Social Education and Collaboration between Schools and the Community

The Osaka Prefectural Board of Education supports study by residents and promotes social participation with the aim of improving the educational capacity of families and communities. In addition to providing venues and opportunities for study in social education facilities such as libraries, it is also offering teaching materials that promote dialogue and networking, and training staff who can play leading roles in their communities.

The Osaka Prefectural Board of Education is working together with schools which is the base, families and communities to promote the formation of child-nurturing “educational communities” on the basis of role-sharing with families and in collaboration with local communities. It is revitalizing community educational activities by providing “after school children classroom” and supporting home education by spreading “parent learning”, as well as involving as many adults as possible in assisting schools via activities such as looking out for children’s safety, offering after-school learning support for children.

Osaka Prefectural Nakanoshima Library

The Prefectural Nakanoshima Library prioritizes the collection and provision of local documentation and old registers from Osaka as well as business support materials, in a building designated as an Important Cultural Property. Its collection contains approximately 600,000 volumes.

Osaka Prefectural Central Library
Higashiosaka City

In addition to providing access to library materials in large reading rooms containing works in fields such as the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences, a room holding novels and other reading materials, the International Institute for Children’s Literature, and a children’s room, the Osaka Prefectural Central Library provides the database of books etc. It also offers assisted reading services for blind and deaf people. It also contains a 380-seat hall and conference rooms. Its collection contains approximately 2.11 million volumes.

Youth Outdoor learning Center
Kaizuka City

The Youth Outdoor Learning Center is a facility including a campsite and outdoor cooking facilities, where children can experience group activities and outdoor activities.(It can be used by a small group through up to 400 people.)
