Osaka’s extensive network of railways and roadways provides easy access to such neighboring regions as Kyoto and Wakayama, as well as all corners of Osaka. The spring of this year heralded the opening of a new railway line, the Hanshin Namba Line, directly connecting Kobe, Osaka and Nara, making Osaka’s railway network even more convenient!
Namba, a gateway to Osaka, is only about 30 minutes from Kansai International Airport by direct train. As a key transportation junction, Namba is also very convenient for visitors to use as a base when touring Osaka or other parts of the Kansai region.
Known as the center of Minami, Namba is also one of Osaka’s two largest entertainment districts. Around the train stations there are large shopping malls, department stores and shopping arcades that offer wide selections of goods. There are also numerous accommodations and restaurants. Also within walking distance from the train stations is the restaurant and bar district Dotombori, famed for its glittering neon signs and moving billboards; a luxury brand shopping area called Shinsaibashi, and the fashionable area Horie, which is very popular among young people. Namba offers a wide variety of entertainments.
The Hanshin Namba Line was created by extending the Hanshin Nishi-Osaka Line, which operates between Kobe and Nishikujo, to connect it with the Kintetsu Line running between Namba and Nara. Traveling between Sannomiya and Nara formerly required transfers. This new line, directly connecting Sannomiya and Nara, enhances the functions of the Namba stations* as terminals to major cities of Japan.  * Official names are Osaka-Namba Station for the Kintetsu and Hanshin lines, and JR Namba Station for the JR line.
